Frostfall II — 9.2/10
42 hours logged. A brutal, fair boss rush with the year's best soundtrack.
Australia's Neon Game Blog
Deep reviews, speedrun teardowns and indie spotlights written by players who actually finish the games. Fresh posts every week from our Port Melbourne arcade den.
About the Empire
CosmicFrostEmpire started in 2018 as a zine handed out at Melbourne arcade meetups. Today it's a 40,000-reader blog covering everything from Souls-like boss design to the local Bay Street indie scene.
We play every title to completion before we score it, log our hours publicly, and never take payment for a review. If it's on the site, we actually beat it.
The Standard
Our review rubric weighs mechanics, accessibility, performance on real hardware, and value per hour. We publish frame-rate captures and load-time tests so you know exactly what you're buying.
Members shape the schedule too — the community votes each month on which backlog classics get the full retrospective treatment.
What You Get
2,500-word verdicts with completion-time logs, difficulty breakdowns and a spoiler-free buy/skip call up top. New review every Tuesday and Friday.
Frame-counted route breakdowns and glitch explainers, co-written with record-holding runners.
Weekly features on Australian and global indie devs before their games blow up.
Real frame-rate and load-time tests on Steam Deck, PS5, Switch and mid-range PCs.
Monthly game nights, backlog votes and early access to every draft review.
From the Blog

42 hours logged. A brutal, fair boss rush with the year's best soundtrack.

A two-person Fitzroy studio building the year's dreamiest platformer.

Sub-90-minute skips, frame windows and menu buffers, fully annotated.

Silky 120fps on PS5, but the career mode runs out of fuel too early.
Reader Signal
"The completion-time logs alone saved me from three full-price flops this year. No other blog is this honest about padding."
"Their Any% route guide shaved four minutes off my Frostfall II PB. The frame windows are documented better than the wiki."
"I found my favourite indie of 2025 through their spotlight column months before it hit any storefront charts. Essential reading."
